Can Military recruit only solders who are having experience
in battling wars? (Think for a minute)
This question provoked the idea of why IT industry is
looking only for experienced resources. There are hand full of reasons why IT
is looking for experienced resources.
- IT companies wants people who can hit the ground running in technology they are dealing with.
- IT companies wants people who can interact with customers, stake holders from day one.
- IT companies does not have time and resources to provide training
So, they want resources whom they can directly put into
projects and expect the high productivity.
If military thinks like IT Companies then military won’t
have 90% of force in the first place.
So, what military does to make sure they can fight the
battles? They train people, create environment which is same as the war, ask
solders to fight the simulated situation / environment. After going through the
training, solders are 100% guaranteed to fight the battles because there is no
difference between simulated Vs real at this stage.
Why don’t we create a school / company which simulates the
entire life cycle of the IT companies and train our resources for various
situations. On an average an IT company spends at least 3 months by
paying them salaries, absorbs the training costs etc etc before they can start
working on the projects. The training cost varies from any where between Rs
40000 to Rs 200000 per resource based on the technologies we deal with.
Some times resources were put directly into projects, we see
many con’s in this scenario.
- These resources don’t have a big picture on what they are doing
- The hand holding by senior resources process has a big impact on time as well as project dead lines. Not all senior resources have acumen to train resources as well.
- Cannot expect the same output from various resources with in the team.
